Pamela Anderson: A Debt-Ridden Former Hollywood Superstar
Pamela Anderson is a Canadian American actress and model. She rose to fame as the Playboy Magazine’s February 1990 Playmate of the Month and is best known for her role as C. J. Parker on the popular TV series Baywatch. Anderson was one of the show’s longest serving cast members, playing the role for five seasons between the years 1992 to 1997.
Her popularity commanded a six figure salary, getting paid $651,000 every time she appeared on a magazine. Adding to her funds is the seven figure annual salary she got from her role in Baywatch for five years. She also starred in Barb Wire, a futuristic remake of Casablanca where she bagged $10 million. There was a seemingly endless booking for magazine shoots, public appearances, and television roles at the peak of her show business career.
She was once a renown Hollywood superstar but the show business, being the way it is, was rarely kind to women as they age especially to ones who rose to fame because of their good looks. The older she got, the less job offers she received.
Getting accustomed to the limelight and the high salary she got from Baywatch, the actress developed a taste for all things expensive such as first class travel, properties decked with gold, and lavish cars to name a few. These luxuries emptied out her bank balance as the flood of money dwindled together with her dying career. Adding to the problem of her dwindling income are the taxes she failed to pay.
Since 2009, Anderson has been facing one tax issue after another running into problems with the California Tax Board, the U.S. government, and the Canadian town of Ladysmith. Back in 2009 the actress had her first run-in with a tax lien worth $1.7 million, having her name appear on the Golden State’s list of top 500 delinquent tax payers.
Pamela claims that she has no intention to evade her taxes and the situation only arose due to unforeseen circumstances and events that occurred outside of her control. According to her it is an embarrassing yet temporary situation. On an interview in 2010 she stated that her tax obligations will be settled in the near future but it didn’t go as planned when two more cases were filed against her.
In 2011 she was slapped with two cases of tax liens amounting over $370,000 filed by the IRS and the California Tax Board, facing both a federal and a state lien. The officials have put a court order on her Malibu mansion to prevent her from selling it until the back taxes were settles. The construction company that built the said mansion claimed she still owes them $1 million for the renovations.
At the time of the issue Pamela’s mansion was in the middle of a luxury renovation project which was put to a stop as the big bucks dried up. The renovation included the addition of gold pool tiles, luxury furniture, and a state of the art sound system. She had to start selling the furniture and other contents just to come up with the money to pay for the builders’ services. In spite selling everything she could, she still owes another $1 million to construction firms and tax men.
Gone are the days when the blonde model’s photos filled the covers of every glamour magazine in the world. With her acting career over, Anderson makes most of her money from appearing on reality TV shows and personal appearances. On the 29th or May 2017 she landed a cameo role for Baywatch’s remake.
From a luxurious life in her Malibu mansion, Anderson now lives in a one bedroom mobile home on a rundown trailer park a few miles from the former luxury home. Still debt-ridden, the former superstar is struggling to meet ends meet while raising her two children. In spite all the hardships, Anderson claims that she and her family are happy in their current lifestyle.
